Key Thoughts on Leadership
Q: What advice would you give to a young professional entering the logistics field?
“Don’t follow the paycheck, follow the passion.”
Q: Under what circumstances do you believe it’s important to demonstrate strong leadership?
“ I think people look most for leadership during times of great turmoil.”
Q: Why do you think employees are often not as successful as they would like to be?
“Most businesses fail to lay out their current reality on paper. They fail to state, “So this is how it really works around here…”, or to state, “This is our expectation for the first two years of being in this company.””
“We also forget to state things like, “These are some of the academic things we are going to assist you with doing, and try to do them in conjunction with the special jobs you’re going to be performing here.”
Q: What are some of the challenges you have found in working with young professionals?
“I believe that we’ll see a surge in turnover of leadership candidates that we believe have the potential for getting into a management or leadership role. Unfortunately, they simply are not willing to put in the effort to get their hands dirty first.”
